This Article explains how to speed up system using the MSCONFIG command and works on Windows XP /Vista and Windows Seven

Click on Start and Run (in Vista you need to type in Start Search right above the start menu)

Type in MSCONFIG and click on ok

You should see System Configuration window

Click on STARTUP and then DISABLE ALL which is on the bottom right corner

The only service I would recommend you to enable is the antivirus which could be Mcafee /Norton/Trend Micro depending upon the application that you are using on your computer.

The second would be the Wireless which could be Dell wireless / Intel Wireless.

Just put a check mark in front of these and click on apply

Now Click on Services right in front of Startup

Click on Hide all microsoft services (make sure its done)

Then disable all and enable only anti virus / wireless services

Now Click on Apply and then Close and Restart

You will note a great change in Loading of Windows.

  1. Begin by inserting the Windows 7 Upgrade Assistant DVD into your computer’s DVD drive. The AutoPlay box appears.
  2. Click Run Win7_Upgrade_Start.exe. The Welcome to the Windows® 7 Upgrade Assistant window appears.
  3. Read this information carefully, and be sure you have backed up your personal files.
  4. To continue, click the checkbox at the bottom to accept the Terms and Conditions, and then click Next.
  5. If the User Account Control box appears, click Allow. The System Compatibility Check runs to scan your computer for required updates and software compatibility. This scan may take several minutes.
  6. When a large green check mark appears, your computer has been verified for the upgrade to Windows 7. Click Next.
  7. In the Required Updates window, click Next, and then follow the prompts to complete the update process for all identified programs.
  8. Your computer may need to restart several times during this process. Simply continue to follow all prompts.
  9. When the Removal of Incompatible Software window appears, click Next.
  10. Please check with the software provider for updated versions, if available, after Windows 7 installation is complete.
  11. Follow the prompts to remove the identified incompatible software.
  12. Be sure Remove All Installed Features is selected, and then click Next.
  13. Click Next again.
  14. When the Replacement of Incompatible Software window appears, click Next and follow any prompts to complete the process.
  15. When Maintenance Complete appears, click Finish.
  16. When Upgrade Preparation is Complete appears, click Finish. The Upgrade Assistant DVD is automatically ejected from the DVD drive.
